Frederic

Hola, I am Frederic (20) from Cologne. I work at Datagroup Köln GmbH (thank you for this opportunity) and I am really glad to be a part of this exchange. Time flew by the last weeks and the last days in Málaga have begun.

First of all, I want to give a short overview of what I did at work.
The entire period of the exchange, I worked with Dennis at AT4Wireless, an international company focused on wireless communication. In addition to four offices in spain, AT4Wireless consists of 11 worldwide locations. WiFi, RFID, Bluetooth and UMTS/LTE are part of the company's business.
I helped to work on a project that belongs to the European Railway Traffic Management system. ERTMS is the future system for management and control of rail traffic on transeuropean lines.

AT4 develops a new standard in collaboration with Alcatel, various spanish transport companies and universities, called TECRAIL. The TECRAIL project studies the viability of deploying LTE for use as a radio access technology in a railway management system, that will be used for signalling, automatic train operation, on-board communication and train to track communications. Messages between train and servers are exchanged nearly every second. The aim is to use railway lines more efficiently and safely. The system already operates for testing purposes in several countries.

Besides work we learned a lot about spanish culture and the spanish way of life. With germany´s role in the economical crisis in mind, the locals were friendly in every situation (even when we tried to make use of our poor language skills). Some of us played football, went to the gym or used their spanish sim-cards to set up other types of contacts. Moreover, we visited Granada, Benalmádena, Gibraltar, Tarifa, Juzcar and Marbella. We spent a lot of time in the center and on the beach of Málaga and therefore became familiar with local food and traditions.

All in all, we had a great time in Málaga and I didn't regret a second that I took part. I highly recommend this type of exchange to everybody who has the chance to participate.
